Attendance Rules
Daily school attendance is important to a student's success at school. Poor attendance often results in poor achievement. Students are expected and required by Utah State Law 53G-6-202 Compulsory education, to attend school every day that school is in session, except on those occasions when the school has been notified that the student is ill or that the student has a family emergency. Frequent absences could result in a truancy letter and an administrative meeting.
Steps to Follow when a Student is Absent or Plans to be Absent
- When a student is absent, a parent or guardian should call the school office that morning. If you forget or are unable to call the office, you can send an email to mpes-attendance@pcschools.us
or the student can bring a note to the office, excusing their absence, when they return to school. All absences must be excused within 10 school days. - For pre-arranged absences of 3 days or more, please contact the front office. Students are required to complete a pre-arranged absence form and then parents, students and teachers are to sign the form and return it to the front office 3 days before the planned absence.
Excessive Absences
-
If a student is excessively absent, an administrator will reach out to parents to create a plan for improved attendance.
-
Ten Day Rule: By law, a student with 10 consecutive unexcused absences will be dropped from school enrollment.
MPES Tardy Policy
-
Students are expected to be at school and in class on time by 8:10AM. Students arriving after 8:15 are marked tardy.
-
When a student is late for school, they must sign in at the front office.
Checking Students Out of School During the School Day
- A note is required for any student that needs to be picked up during the school day or before our final bell rings. Your student needs to show their teacher and bring the note to the office. These notes are very important because they cut down on classroom interruptions, which lead to interruptions for all other students in that class.
- Students must be signed-out at the main office by a parent or someone on your student’s emergency contact list. A government issued photo ID will be required to check out any/all students.
- If you did not send a note to pick-up your student, please give yourself enough time to come to the main office for check-out. We do not accept phone calls for pick-up, a parent/guardian must be present in the main office before we will call a student out of class. We do understand that emergencies come up. Please e-mail the office at mpes-attendance@pcschools.us
and let us know you need to check-out your child and we will be happy to help you.
